| Welcome to Loyola Shelties on the web. We are a small kennel, newly located in central Newfoundland. Starting out, it was just me. But now Loyola shelties consists of myself, Cheryl, my husband Jim and our daughter, Melissa. I started in shelties with a wonderful girl - Marie's Surprise, CDX (Call name: Tiffany). She was not high show quality, but I didn't care. I started doing obedience and got bitten badly by the bug! With our CD in the first 3 trials, including High in Classes, High Aggregate, and a High In Trial! Well, after that, the open was a tad harder - it took us many many trials (lets not say exactly how many) - the stays just were not happening! But we finally did accomplish that remarkable level of obedience! That was it, I was into shelties big time by then. I bred Tiffany, and of that first litter (born on a Friday the 13th to boot!) I put CD's on three of them! All with high in classes. The next generation from there were obedience dogs too, with three more CD's, multiple high in classes and high in trials. Slowly I started in the conformation ring - and soon found a lot of fun there - and met some wonderful friends! Oh, I still dabble in the obedience ring - right now I am working with Loyola's Gabriel (Gabe) for his novice, and agility. We are having a blast in the training tho - hopefully to be in the shows this summer/fall. In 1991, I went to the first Canadian Nationals in Saskatooon. There I fell in love with what I consider one of the most beautiful shelties ever - yep, that would be Can/Am/Jap/Int Ch Golden Hylite's The Phantom, ROM, ROMC. I just knew I had to have some of this boy's offspring. So Nancy Tibben sent me a bitch in whelp to Phantom, Kevlaurs Golden Hylite's Madonna. She produced from that litter the beautiful Ch Loyola's Material Girl O Jahill - who I showed at Vancouver nationals and won an Award Of Merit! That was one of the most memorable events I could ever hope for! A few years later Nancy sent me a stunning bitch puppy, to become the incredible Multi BIS Can/Int Ch Golden Hylite's Celtic Mist (Am points). Kellee and I did many firsts together - including the nod for our first Best In Show! it was incredible! She took another Best In Show with our handler and good friend, Teresa Brereton handling. This girl was to be one of the great shelties in Canada! In 2000 she placed #5 sheltie in Canada in very limited showing, and in 2001 she was the top sheltie bitch in Canada - only 5 points behind the top dog. She was the love of my life. This girl became a huge foundation for me, and with her children and grandchildren, her line will continue here. I also aquired a beautiful American Champion boy - to finish his Canadian championship in style too - in one weekend! He is Can/Am Ch Ozark Crest Perfect Alibi, and a wonderful addition to my shelties. He sired only singleton puppies here in Canada, and only 3 total. Sadly, Parker passed onto the bridge in 2008. We are very lucky to have a gorgeous daughter of his, Hannah. Since moving here to Newfoundland, I have found myself concentrating on my beautiful daughter, Melissa, and our home and family. Now that Melissa is 3, I am starting to continue my breedings and showing in both obedience and conformation. Many thanks to Nancy Tibben, as she just sent me another gorgeous girl. I look forward to seeing her contributions to the sheltie and show world. I am so very proud of all the accomplishments my shelties have achieved - they are my babies, and house dogs first and foremost. The puppies are all raised in my kitchen, and amongst the chaos of family living. Temperment, Health and Type are what we are breeding for. Usually only a litter or two a year - if that, is what we produce. We have agility titles, many champions and obedience titles on the dogs from here. Hopefully that will continue with the generations yet to come. We look forward to seeing what happens next! Cheryl |
